three extraordinary Americans whose lives exemplify courage, service, and leadership.

Leadership Keynote

Honoring Service, Leadership, and 250 Years of American Resilience

Colonel (Ret.) Shawn Daniel is a 1993 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he served as First Captain of the Corps of Cadets. He went on to a distinguished career in the United States Army. On the night of October 19, 2001, he led the first American combat troops to parachute into Afghanistan—seizing Objective Rhino and opening the ground campaign of Operation Enduring Freedom in the south. Over the course of his career, Colonel Daniel would deploy once to Iraq and seven times to Afghanistan.

In 2022, the Ranger community recognized that lifetime of leadership and sacrifice by inducting him into the Ranger Hall of Fame.

But Colonel Daniel’s service did not end when he took off the uniform. He returned home to Arkansas and founded Darby’s Warrior Support—named for William O. Darby, the Arkansas native who created the modern Rangers in World War II. Through this organization, Shawn has spent the last decade providing free, all-inclusive hunting and fishing experiences for post-9/11 special operations veterans. His belief is simple and powerful: nature heals. The results speak for themselves—hundreds of warriors have walked through his doors, and not one has been lost to suicide.

In a year when we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, it is only fitting that we hear from an American hero who has fought to keep us free and lead thousands of others in battle, but who fights just as hard to support those heroes and their families when they come home, just like the citizen-soldiers of 1776.

Healthcare continues to evolve at a remarkable pace, shaped by advances in technology, changing patient expectations, financial pressures, and an increasingly complex care delivery landscape. Surgeon, researcher, author, and 27th FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary will examine the forces transforming American healthcare, offering a thoughtful perspective on both the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. Drawing on his experience as a physician and national healthcare leader, he will explore emerging trends, discuss practical approaches to addressing longstanding challenges, and provide insight into what healthcare leaders can expect as the industry continues to evolve over the next decade.

Inspirational Keynote

Leadership Beyond Limits: Lessons from Space Exploration

As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, we honor not only the courage that founded this nation, but the boldness that has always pushed it forward—across oceans, across continents, and ultimately into the heavens.

Colonel (Ret.) Doug Hurley has devoted his life to the American spirit of exploration. He is a retired United States Marine Corps officer, a combat-tested fighter pilot and test pilot, and the first Marine to fly the F/A-18 Super Hornet. After more than two decades of service in the Corps, he joined NASA in 2000.

He flew two Space Shuttle missions: first as pilot of STS-127 aboard Endeavour, helping complete the Japanese laboratory module on the International Space Station; and later as pilot of STS-135 aboard Atlantis—the final flight of the Space Shuttle program.

Then, on May 30, 2020, Colonel Hurley made history again. As commander of SpaceX’s Crew Dragon Demo-2 mission, he and fellow astronaut Bob Behnken became the first astronauts to launch from American soil in nearly a decade—and the first ever to fly aboard a commercially built and operated spacecraft. That flight restored America’s independent ability to send its own astronauts into space and opened a new chapter in human spaceflight.

In recognition of that achievement and his broader contributions, he was awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor—one of the highest distinctions our nation can bestow for spaceflight.

From the cockpit of a Marine fighter to the final Shuttle and the first commercial crew vehicle, Doug Hurley has helped write the continuing story of American exploration.
