Eric O’Daffer – Supply Chain Industry Champion
Brent Johnson | Friday, August 7, 2026
I have known Eric O’Daffer for nearly 20 years. For 15 of those years, he served as Research Vice President for Healthcare Supply Chain at Gartner, where he stood at the center of the healthcare supply chain industry. Widely respected and regarded as a trusted colleague by many, Eric led the development of the Top 25 Healthcare Supply Chain Systems ranking and helped shape the conversation around performance and best practice.
Although he has left Gartner, he has not left the field. He has launched Smarter Sourcing (smartersourcing.com), a podcast and platform dedicated to sharing practical innovation and forward-looking insights in healthcare supply chain.
His interviews feature leading executives and address issues that matter directly to all of us:
- Michael Dunlap from ProcureCon – topic: The pulse of the Chief Procurement Officer
- Teresa Dail from Vanderbilt – topic: How a clinical background shapes supply chain leadership
- Yisa Wong from Fossil Group – topic: Sourcing through global disruption
- Jason Moulding from MultiCare – topic: Building strategy around people, performance and partnership
- Ben Haygood from Piedmont Healthcare – topic: Why consolidating vendor cost patients more than it saves your Org
- Kevin Gordon from Grady Health – topic: The back-to-basics approach to rebuild supply chain credibility
- Charlie Miceli from University of Vermont Health – topic: AI as the new ERP in healthcare supply chain
- Burton Fuller from Johns Hopkins Medicine: topic: Building the data foundation to measure every facet of supply chain performance
Eric will be at the IDN Summit in Phoenix later this month, leading a session titled “New Dimensions of Leadership in Healthcare Supply Chain” on Monday afternoon, and will join the Senior Executives Forum on Wednesday, offering additional opportunities to engage with his perspective in person.
We all improve by studying proven practices and thoughtfully adapting what fits our own organizations. Eric O’Daffer and Smarter Sourcing remain a valuable and timely source of those insights.
