Dr. Akers is the Vice President of Pharmacy at UC Health in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is active in the pharmacy profession and 340B advocacy. Dr. Akers has been involved with 340B operations, informatics, and administration for over 20 years. He has served on numerous government and professional committees and boards in relation to pharmacy practice and medication use.

Dr. Akers is a 1993 graduate of the University of Kentucky, College of Pharmacy where he received a Bachelor of Science (BSPharm) and a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) with Distinction. In 1998, Dr. Akers graduated with a Masters in Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree from the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. In 2000, Dr. Akers became a Board Certified Pharmacotherapeutic Specialist (BCPS) as granted by the Board of Pharmacotherapeutic Specialties. In 2023, Dr. Akers was granted the status of a Certified Pharmacy Executive Leader (CPEL) by the American Society of Health System Pharmacy (ASHP).
