George R. Smith, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCSCP, is the System Sterile Compounding Services Specialist at Prisma Health, overseeing 25 compounding areas including two centralized compounding suites and six ambulatory oncology infusion centers. With more than 20 years of leadership experience in home infusion, sterile compounding automation, and health-system pharmacy, he holds BCPS and BCSCP certification from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties. Prior to rejoining Prisma Health in 2023, he directed and consulted on robotic sterile compounding automation for six years, honing expertise in cleanroom design, USP <797> Category 3 operations, process validation, product development, and GMP in the 503B outsourcing arena. Dr. Smith was appointed to the USP Compounding Expert Committee (2025–2030 cycle) and serves as a Clinical Instructor in Sterile Compounding for the Kennedy Pharmacy Innovation Center at the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy. He is an AJHP peer reviewer and field-tester for ASHP’s Compounded Sterile Preparation Studies for Recertification.
