Dr Kumar is a board-certified internist and nephrologist. She joined Fairview as the system Chief Medical officer and President of Fairview Health Medical Group in May of 2024. As the medical officer of the fourth largest employer in Minnesota, she leads a network of over 5,000 providers and 34,000 employees.
She has over 20 years of healthcare leadership experience, more recently she served as the CMO for HCA HealthONE Swedish Medical Center in Denver. Dr. Kumar has a remarkable and extensive track record in healthcare leadership, quality improvement, physician engagement, health equity advancement, and the development of effective multidisciplinary teams. Kumar received her medical degree from King George’s Medical University and trained at The State University of New York (SUNY); the University of California, San Francisco; and the University of Arkansas. She has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Tennessee. Recognized for her leadership and dedication to community health initiatives, she was honored as "Outstanding Woman in Business" by the Denver Business Journal in 2022. At Fairview, her contributions have been invaluable, showcasing strong operational and people leadership. Dr. Kumar also serves on the board of directors for the Twin Cities American Heart Association and enjoys volunteering in the community.
